What is your biggest challenge as Director, Europe at AMLA®?
The most common challenge is the overreliance that regulated entities have on AML/CFT technology vendors which results in a limited understanding of how their systems actually perform. We frequently see inaccurate system configurations which use default settings, and have no adaptation to the specific risk appetite of the regulated entity. Systems, therefore, are not optimised from an effectiveness and efficiency point of view. At AMLA, we help our customers to overcome this challenge using our RegTech and SupTech solutions.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing our customers benefit from using our technology. We bring measurable impact in terms of understanding system performance, and also to optimising operational resource and costs. The technology that AMLA® offers brings fresh perspective to traditional AML/CFT compliance, which means a shift from reviewing policies and documentation to testing AFC systems. I take great pride in knowing that AMLA is the only company in the world to carry out Thematic Reviews on behalf of regulators and supervisors, testing and validating sanction screening and transaction monitoring systems.
How does your role impact our customers on a day to day basis?
Engagement with AMLA® is eye-opening for many of our customers because they understand how their systems react to specific situations, and what positive implications those outcomes have on their AML/CFT compliance risks and operations. On top of this, regulatory authorities are becoming increasingly aware that RegTech and SupTech solutions enable them to conduct their duties using technology in much more effective and efficient ways, which is very rewarding to see.
